Agencies & funding

What Edmonton and Calgary spend on policing, how fast it is growing, and the oversight and disproportionality data behind any fair comparison. Every figure below is drawn from at least two independent public sources.

Side-by-side: Edmonton vs Calgary (2022–2026 documented record)

Read this first. This compares only the documented, two-source-verified incidents in this database — not a complete count of everything that happened. Rates use each service's population as the denominator. Treat it as a transparent starting point for comparison, not a final scientific ranking. Larger, better-resourced normalization (per officer, per call volume, multi-year smoothing) is described in the methodology.

Operating budgets, 2023–2026

Note the measures differ: Edmonton figures reflect council base/effective funding; Calgary figures are gross budgeted expenditures (its net tax-funded requirement is lower). Compare trends, not just totals.
